The Quiet Roar – original poem

2013-09-30 22.52.40

                       THE QUIET ROAR

Inside every opportunity is the chance to trip and fall

upon our fears and indecisive groaning.

We begin with hope brimming from the sparkle of that

     which we covet to achieve.

We set our course and brace ourselves for

     work, wish, and wonder.

Alas the day comes when a mountain appears before our eyes,

looming ever bigger than we imagined.

It is not our reality but our paradigm of self disbelief

wanting to cast a daunting shadow upon that fanciful dream.

That is the day we come to know just how deep our desire is planted,

how well watered and cared for it might be.

We whisper to ourselves the secret question we dare not admit,

which queries whether we are “enough.”

Indeed, we quake at the thought that we have not enough of

     something vital for the journey.

Have we stepped too far and gone past the brink

of all that we know we can do, be, and have?

Pause … and stand in the stillness of the fear for but a time and listen

for that even smaller voice inside our soul.

The one that knows the mighty truth of our unique

     and everlasting spirit.

“I am” I hear in the quietest voice buried

     deep inside my heart.

Again it squeaks, and stronger still until it turns into

     a deep and quiet roar.

“I AM” I speak, with growing confidence, all that

I imagine that I can be.

And with that spoken declaration comes the brilliant truth

at long last tumbling through my core.

It is not fear that will determine if I have what

     I need to carry forth.

It is the choice to hear within the ever knowing

     truth of my existence.

I am all that I shall need to walk the next step of my path,

the one that I came to dream of and create.

And fear must, as the laws of life command, slip ever sulkily away

leaving only truth, and trust to stand.

Fear shall not win as long as I listen to that still small roar

upon which I choose to follow.

                                  ~ Barbara Bernard Miller

I AM – an original poem

I AM

Sitting in silence I look, I wait.

I do not hear the rustle of movement but I feel you move.

I stand flush with excitement as I know you are near.

Hearing your whisper, my spirit sinks into your comforting embrace.

With Spirit surrounding my mind there is peace.

I press my heart closer to heaven

To hear you words more clearly.

I am swept away with soul listening.

Mesmerized by the timber of your voice.

I speak not just to you, but with you.

Whole.

Blessed.

I am.

Divine Perfection – original poem

Image

“In the still of the morning, or the heat of the day,
it’s always the right time for you to say
the words that will shift the pains that may be.
Don’t hold back your best from those you see.
Open your heart and extend your hand
Kindness is needed by every woman and man.
The blessings will flow in every direction
Because you showed up in your divine perfection.”

50 Acts of Kindness – 41-50

Here’s the final list from my Kindness Inspires Kindness birthday celebration. I hope you have all enjoyed the journey!

#41 Babies & Kids – I went to the day care center by my work and I read “The Night You Were Born” to the preschoolers there and donated it so they could read it to the kids when they have a birthday in the future. They were such a delight! I loved every minute and got a little misty when they all sang and wanted to give me birthday presents. They did make me a birthday card – aren’t they sweet? One little girl was having a birthday that week as well so I gave her my birthday boa. She was thrilled! I can’t show the kids for privacy reasons but here a couple of me.

#42 Babies & Kids – We all know that teen-aged girls can be the hardest on themselves. So I wrote 200 notes of affirmation and love and had them put on the cars of the girls at the high school I attended. Actually, it’s the all-girl school that every girl in my family has attended. My sister is a teacher there and she said they were all talking about it the next day so I guess they appreciated a little love in their day.

#43 Sick & Needy – I donated a pile of items to Goodwill. I like to do that several times a year.

#44 – Created an angel painting with a special message included. Love when the angels come out to play! (NOTE – picture not delivered yet so putting these angel wings as a placeholder so as not to spoil the surprise!)

#45 Just Because – I gave a copy of my book, MIGHTY INSPIRATION, Love Letters from God to someone. I love when I can spread the inspiration this way.

#46 Sick & Needy – I gave blood. It’s been a few years and now I remember why. They said I’m a “slow” bleeder and I got just enough, just in time to meet the requirement. Whew!

#47, #48, #49 – These three go together – These are my sweet “Giving Crew” – I bought them breakfast, lunch, and supper, respectively as they spent the day with me running around town and doing acts of kindness. They are precious and supportive and just the loveliest people! They helped make my birthday wish come true. Can’t thank them enough and couldn’t think of a better group to spend my birthday day with!

#50 – Babies & Kids – I saved my favorite one for last. My daughter and I went to University Hospital, which is where I was born. I had a gift for a baby girl born 50 years after I was born. Hmmm I’ve learned it’s harder to give a gift to a stranger than I thought, but I was patient and God worked it out. Anyway, I met the loveliest couple. They had identical twins and about halfway through the pregnancy found out they had a very rare condition where all the amniotic fluid transfers from one baby to another. So one baby was really swimming in it and the other had almost none. The doctors gave the 2nd baby almost no chance to live and the mom almost no chance of taking the babies safely to term. There was nothing medically that could be done and there was no way to correct the situation. Those are dire words to say to a young couple waiting for their sweet babies. So the parents and family did the only thing they could …. they prayed. And within a short 2 week period the fluid had evened out (impossible huh?) and the babies were born at about week 36 or 37 weeks – that’s awesome for twins! Both are miracle babies. One (Truette Lynn) was in the NICU so I didn’t get to see her but I got to see Larkyn Ellen. And the parents graciously told me to go ahead and hold her. Yes, it was a present for me in return. And oh yeah, I cried.  I will forever pray for those birthday twins, Larkyn and Truette.

There you have it – the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER, in pictures!!! Thanks for being witness to my journey of kindness and thanks to all who blessed me for my 50th Birthday. Dreams really do come true!!

Be blessed!

50 – Acts of Kindness that is

KIK logo 8-13-13 It finally arrived – my 50th birthday, which means, August 13, 2013 was KINDNESS INSPIRES KINDNESS DAY!!! Woot woot! 1993-32007-18Nope, this story is really not about me at all – it’s just the day and the way I chose to celebrate a life sprinkled with the kindness of loved ones and strangers. I am dedicating that special day to 2 special couples – Mabel and Juel Bernard, my grandparents, and Jim and Jacque Miller, my parents. Because of how deeply they love, they chose to shower kindness into my life when I was a little ragamuffin girl in the orphanage, and still to this day. They changed my life. I cannot possibly repay them for the literal rescue they made of me, and so I choose to turn and pay it forward. They taught me how to love the unlovable, to give to those in need, and to never stop striving to be and do my best. I am forever in their debt. I love them with all my heart! Thank you Grandma, Grandpa, Mommy & Daddy!!

And, this day was also about the beautiful souls who continue to pour love and kindness into my life – my “Giving Crew”. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of hearts and hands who, when asked to help me with the Kindness day, generously said yes!  Love and hugs to all these loving souls – that includes those who were with me that day, those who contributed, and those who cheered me on. So many – too many to list them all but you know who you are! Thank you!!

For my readers, over the next several days I will be chronicling in pictures the 50 acts of kindness that we shared in the Cincinnati area. I started with 4 categories: 1) Babies/Children, 2) Sick/Elderly, 3) Those Who Serve, and 4) Just Because.  In as many acts as I could I included people and places that related to my life since it was, after all, a celebration of 50 years of blessings I’ve received. What a fabulous day – THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!! There really are not enough of the right words to describe the blessings I received during the day but I will attempt to at least share the stories and pictures.

Enjoy the journey with me in the next several days so you can see the whole story. KIK day cardsRemember to be a blessing, and be blessed in return! ~ Barbara Miller

Kindness Inspires Kindness Day – almost here

Image

Well, my 50th birthday is fast approaching. I am receiving help and donations from friends and family. Plans are taking shape and the pile in my garage is mounting. I cannot wait for my Kindness Inspires Kindness birthday bash. We will be running all over town sharing blessings and spreading kindness. It’s the best birthday celebration I can think of for my big 5-0.

If you want to help me celebrate – step out and do a kindness in your sphere of the world on August 13.

As the day approaches and the festivities occur I’ll be taking pictures and sharing on this blog.

Woot Woot – best birthday plans ever!

Join me and be blessed!

One – original poem

1016095_542070572517189_1523308065_n

ONE

One glance and the connection is acknowledged.

One conversation and all is made clear.

It is the ease and the peace and the trust that feels familiar.

The timber of your voice resonates from time before time.

This can be no mistaken identity.

And as I go inside my mind and transcend thoughts into that place of knowing.

I remember the brilliance of your soul as it was illuminated by God’s face.

Every inch of my soul screams in the ecstasy of remembering.

Not of the temporal knowledge but of the eternal knowledge that I have found you at long last.

This is not a discovery of who you are but a remembering of who you have always been.

The white light sparkle that drips from you intermingles with the same that drips from me.

And with this recognition comes a longing to romp, roll, and revel in the wisdom of your soul.

And again, we can be one.

One of mind, seeking to live in truth.

One of heart, beating with the love of all that is real and unfettered by mortal temples.

One path, skipping forward into the bliss of reunion.

One love, of which all things are created.

Simply one.

My Soul Stirs – original poem

Binary-Star-2-PhotoMY SOUL STIRS

Standing in the middle of movement, the twirling, swirling world moves around me.

With no warning. No clue. No signal.

Action fades into a standstill.

I caught a glance and my soul stirs.

I am suddenly and excitedly alive.

With every breath of air the goosebumps rise.

A green and vibrant vision appears.

Angels voices arise mingling with your words.

I see a new dimension where energy abounds.

With each moment, each hour, each revelation the connection is cementing.

I did not know the revelation was on the horizon.

Taken aback and yet surging full speed into possibility.

Oneness. Power. Collaboration.

I do what I know and it grows.

You do what you know and it explodes.

Healing and the healer emerging in a breath.

Souls embracing remembered power.

I see you more clearly.

Nothing will be the same.

Bliss

And my soul shivers.

Mighty Inspiration, Love Letters from God

Here’s a synopsis from AskDavid.com. If you have read my book I’d love for you to add your review on Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com (or both). If you haven’t read my book, here’s a little bit about it.

Barbara Miller

Author Barbara Millerabout her book: As a young girl growing up in an orphanage, there were very few things that I knew I could count on. One was my ability to survive, in spite of the circumstances I was living through. The other was that there was a God who was always with me and always protecting me. I would talk to God as my sole companion and that was enough back then. It was really all I had to comfort my broken heart.

And now, in these times of chaos and stress, God speaks to us. He always has really. I experienced this first-hand when I was sitting on my couch and had a sudden gripping urge that I NEEDED to write a book. My only trouble was that I didn’t know what to write. However, willing to heed the calling, I sat at my computer with a blank page and the inspiration began to flow, one or two words at a time. Within 3 weeks of starting this adventure, this book was complete. It is both profound and universal in its loving message.

One connection at a time, I was led to a publishing agent, and a publishing company that were moved and inspired to publish the book. Because of the way the book created itself, I insisted that the words stand as they were and everyone agreed. Within 12 months of my first sitting at the computer, my book, MIGHTY INSPIRATION, Love Letters from God was published and available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. The adventure had begun!

If you wonder what your purpose is, or how you can make a difference in your life or any other life, this book will provide you with insights. You can access your gift of creative power to impact every aspect of your life. Be open to the love of God and to the love that you can create and you will see that it makes all the difference in the world. Enter into a new phase of thinking and being and you and others will be blessed!

Since writing this book, I have heard wonderful accounts of how it has affected the lives of my readers. With kind and positive words from every walk of life I am encouraged that this message really is for everyone – believers and those who are on a questioning journey. If you have questions about your life and your purpose, this book can help you. And as I blog and correspond with people from over 100 countries, I find that the message is universally relevant and uplifting. My readers frequently give the book as a gift to those they love and care about.

In appreciate for the blessings that this book has given to my life, I donate 50% of my proceeds to charity. In this way, the blessings swirl and grow, just as talked about in the book.

I would love to hear your story and your reaction to this book. In addition, I am available to speak your group or organization as a motivational/inspirational speaker. Telling my story and spreading the love that God has for the world is a privilege and an outcome of my writing experience.

Soul Remembering – original poem

SOUL REMEMBERING

This journey of remembering my soul is a meandering path.

Along the way are strewn memories that have been hidden from myself.

Clues are peaking from behind laughter and tears pointing to bumps, bruises, and elations.

In my sporadic attempts to reach into my core essence

I begin to hear the whispers of my true purpose.

That dream I dream is a siren’s call.

That goal I’ve set is urging me to know myself.

The keys to my very existence sit before me in the echo of my childhood thoughts.

This is not a longing for what could be.

It is an awakening inside of me of what already is.

How have I come this far without fathoming my truth?

Today I will let my soul speak through images and intuitions.

I will be guided into my truth by my heart leading my head for but a time.

I shall recognize myself in the creation of my hands.

I shall touch my soul for this brief time, exposing it gently to the world.

Embracing the hidden friend that is forever here.

This time I will remember.

And for a brief moment, I may recognize myself as whole.

Conquer with Love – original poem

CONQUER WITH LOVE

Fire-Love-Images-Background-HD-WallpaperWhen evil seers a hole into the fabric of our lives,

It does not account for the power of light and love

To enter through that ragged wound.

What hate cuts and scratches to destroy,

Kindness and generosity stitches back a stronger whole.

There is no place that darkness can hide

For it is your light that can illuminate all.

Fear would cause us to shrink back and not live as we design,

But strength of connection creates bravery to step out.

Let us not fight with anger but rather conquer with love.

We are in control – not of what happens to us

But of who we reach out to for help and for comfort.

We can overcome the hatred in this world

If we but make a greater counter play of love.

Hate not, but forgive.

Shrink not, but join.

Revenge not, but console.

Let us seek to heal the defeated before they turn cold and bitter.

Let us defeat the hatred that seeks to create more haters.

Let us be love, do love, speak love and seek love.

Invitation of the Soul – an original poem

INVITATION OF THE SOUL

With giddy anticipation building, I quietly prepare my journey.heart-and-soul-jan-camerone

Gathering all I need, I step into the space, sacred but not silent.

Simplicity itself creates an opening where laughter can coax up imagination.

Connections exploding like popcorn around the room from one heart to another.

Voices ebbing and flowing as energy swirls and twirls and dwindles into reflection.

Searching being half the fun and vision the remaining, I feel a  kiss of friendship.

Sharing, holding back, wiping a tear unidentified as joy or sorrow.

There in this space exists no pressure to perform.

No should, no ought, no obligation, only a calling forth of  the soul.

Song and silence both opening the heart for recognition.

In community lies safety to expose the soul to those longing to see it.

Wandering to and fro with laughter and dancing spontaneously bubbling forth.

I stand face to face and recognize a picture into my very essence, claiming it as my own.

At the closing moment, with reverence and honor I look into the eyes of others.

I see a bit of me, in divine glory, looking back.

So the angels dance, twirling the energy of the moment in glorifying release.

Whooooooshhhhhh.

Awaiting the final chime of bell to close the celebration.

With more love, more insight, and more of me, I retreat to solitary reflection.

Heart complete and full until the next time I am beckoned forth by an invitation of the soul.

Season of Beauty – original poem

SEASON OF BEAUTY

It isn’t the twinkle of lights in the city that brighten the holiday season,

It is the smiles and gestures of charity from you that give the days their meaning.

It isn’t the songs that bring out the joy on the lips of all the people,

It is the words of kindness that you are spreading that creates a joyful ripple.

It isn’t the food, cookies, or nog warming the hearths of the homes,

But rather the touch of a friend, or a hug that shows them they’re not alone.

It isn’t shoppers who bustle about, that create the atmosphere and energy,

It is the quiet connection of hearts and giving that melts the frost in the air.

I have a part, and you have a part, in bringing the season to life.

It is our union of spirit and not our religions that actually fuels the light.

It is the love in our hearts that we’re willing to share that creates a sense of community.

Believe you can spread the light and the love and we’ll all have a season of beauty.

~ Barbara Bernard Miller

A Victorian Christmas Carol, Thomas Kinkade

Pass it on!

Today I received a really lovely note from someone who had attended my speaking engagement on Gratitude. Of course I was pleased that she had enjoyed my speech. Her words were flattering. But that wasn’t the important thing about her message. What really caught my heart was how she had “passed it on”. My speaking had inspired her to in turn speak at her church and give her own testimony. She talked about Regrets and Resolutions and had the courage to share her own story. She passed along several of my insights that had touched her. What a gift she gave – not only to those she spoke to, but to me as well.

This is exactly in line with one of the chapters in my book, MIGHTY INSPIRATION, Love Letters from God. It talks about how one action, word, or inspiration spirals and twists and move across the face of the earth because it builds and grows as it gets passed along. We almost never see the far-reaching results of the positive things we create. But they live and move well beyond our initial creation.  This is one way in which we can change the world. Nothing happens if we receive it and hold what we have. It edifies us, yes. But it stops there. It lingers temporarily and then dies with the next thing that catches our attention and focus. Now, the real change comes when we receive and then give. When we pass it on – no matter what it is – it grows. It takes on more and more energy and spreads in multiple directions. It divides and multiplies – it does not diminish, when we pass it on.

I was thrilled to hear from her. I was delighted to see this principle in action. And I know, in the energy of spirit that more and more people are passing it on even now.

What are you passing on these days? Whatever it is, may it be a positive change in our world … and may you be blessed!
