My Life List …

I’ve been thinking alot lately about the things that I’d like to do in this lifetime. Maybe it’s my upcoming birthday that is putting me in this mood.
hot-air-balloon-57_3While it’s a common phrase these days, I’m not sure I like the term “bucket list” – I get it, it’s from the movie title. I’d rather call it my “Life List” or my “Dream List” or my “Experience It All List” … but that’s just me. Whatever you call it, I love the concept. I first heard about it as a “100 Things to Do Before You Die List” back around the turn of the millennium.  The speaker talked about the idea of arriving at the end of life knowing he lived it all, as much as he could, on purpose. No regrets are as strong as the dreams you left unchased.  With that motivation, I immediately made a pretty good list that started with flying in a hot air balloon. Yep, that was my first thing checked off as I did just that for my 40th birthday. I’ve since checked off quite a few items by now (11 years later).

So I’m reinvigorating my dreams and building up my list. I’d love to hear what’s on your list of things not to miss in this lifetime. So let’s do some sharing. What’s the favorite thing you’ve ever done and something you are hoping to do. I’m sure with suggestions from friends I’ll fill up my list in no time.

Suggest away and be blessed!

Weird Al Yankovic’s – Word Crimes

Ok, I just can’t help myself. I must confess I have always been a fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic. He spoofs real songs and videos and frankly he’s a talented guy. He has another one that’s out now and, as a writer and blogger I think it’s just the perfect song to help us all out.

So, go ahead and giggle as you watch this one!

Being Congruent At Last

MI website logoI’ve been struggling for a while now. We all do it, mostly by getting hung up with the paradigms we put in place along the journey of our life. We hear something or see something and we begin to believe it. We let our minds hold onto the thoughts and our hearts lead us around under it’s influence. We limit ourselves by the thoughts of “What will so-and-so think?” or “How will this get in my way?”

Then one day, we hear something different; something that re-opens our eyes to who we really are and what we really are here in life to do.

Well, that happened to me as I’ve gone through the certification to be a Dream Builder Life Coach this past year. That process that I went through opened a corner of my mind to the possibility that I could authentically show up in the world as a “whole” person – both an intelligent, successful professional as well as a divinely connected spiritual person. It’s a struggle to try to segment our lives to be one or the other depending on the audience.

Today I decided I was strong enough to stop the struggle … simply stop.  My intention is to be congruent, consistent, and whole. I am a multi-faceted woman with many gifts, skills, talents, and passions. And I have the right and ability to authentically operate in the world in a blended, holistic way vs. a segregated and separate way.

WOW! How freeing it is to say it out-loud. How absolutely right and peaceful it feels in my heart to know that I can be me … all of me. Other people can choose to love it, hate it, like it, or lump it. And none of that changes me. Because I have this mighty shift in my attitude and my countenance, I know that it will create a shift in my success as well. I will attract more people who will seek out my services because they also want to be authentic and congruent. It’s a win-win in every way!

In the spirit of living out my new-found confidence I have updated my website as well. Feel free to browse around:  www.mightyinspiration.com

Maya Angelou … a Tribute – original poem

Today the light in heaven got a little brighter as the earth released a powerful, lovely woman … Dr. Maya Angelou.

MayaAngelouShe had long been my hero – this woman, this phenomenal woman who gave voice to higher spirit living inside of us. She encouraged us. She lit the candle of her soul into the darkness and she made the world look at itself differently. She will continue to guide my path as her words, although now limited by time and space, will continue to radiate until the end of time itself. I am sad to see her go.

One of my favorite quotes from Maya is: “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” In honor of that lovely insight, I will “sing my song” in this poem, this tribute to a rare soul. Be blessed on your journey home Maya!

MAYA ANGELOU  …. A TRIBUTE

(original poem)

The words, though they cease in their coming, echo brightly into the world.

Bouncing from soul to soul with a loving touch, I hear them ringing.

I follow the sound of encouraging rhythm and see their wisdom still living.

You, a humble hero with not enough time to satiate our hearts.

You, a poet, evangelist, and earth angel flitting now beyond time.

You shall be missed but not forgotten.

You will be quoted, revered, and still spoken.

You shall gloriously write the words the angels now will sing.

And in the day when your voice can be heard by all of eternity,

We shall look again upon a woman, a phenomenal woman,

Speaking her lilting words of love.

And we will again be inspired.

Mirror Moments

Laura-Williams’-Creative-Invisible Reflection-Photo-Session-2I experienced one of those “mirror moments” today. I was attending a  community group today with a lovely bunch of women. The session included some reflective, quiet time and supportive sharing.  Right in the middle of this lovely energy we were interrupted by a very indignant woman barging into the space being rude and accusatory without reason. She was the mother-of-the bride who was preparing for the wedding that was to take place later in the day in the same venue.

After she left the space we all quickly cleared her energy from the room and sent her loving thoughts. The irony was that the session was about the mother archetype. What I realized as time went on was that “mad mama bear” energy the woman brought into the room was a reflection back to me (and perhaps others) of the effect that aggressive mothering has on others. One one hand, I felt offended by her and pity for her daughter who was experiencing such negative energy on such a beautiful day. On the other hand, I saw myself in her from times in past when I felt the need to lash out to protect my rights, my children’s rights, or just because I was stressed. That mirror moment, while brief, has left an imprint on my mind and my heart.

I hope I remember that impact and that woman the next time my “mama bear” emotions rear up. I hope I hold the mirror up fast enough to not take that energy into the groups of people that I encounter. If I make this mistake, I pray that others will clear that energy from the room and send me loving thoughts as we did today.

And, while it was disconcerting, I find it also stirred up my compassion. It reminds me that everywhere I go, there are people experiencing life as unfair and difficult, stressed beyond their own recognition. I choose to use that compassion and that recognition as deeper motivation to use my energy to shift the energy around me for good.

Blessings dear bride, and peace to you “mama bear” – may the wedding be a joyous moment free of aggressive, stressed out energy.

Be blessed!

Mother’s Day celebrating …

It’s that time of year again when we celebrate mothers. It’s one of those holidays that make my heart sing for many reasons.

First, I love that I have had the pleasure in life to be a mother – my children, and the spouses they have chosen are a true blessing. I am proud of them all! They have brought out the best in me. They have challenged my spirit to grow in ways I never imagined anyone could. They have enhanced and expanded my life and I am grateful!

Second, When I look at my mother, aunts, sisters and grandmothers I feel deep appreciation because I know the sacrifices they have made for me and my family. Every woman in my family has made a deep and lasting impression on me and my life, both as a woman, and a mother. The ties of love run deep!

And lastly, this holiday is always marked with my favorite flowers as well … lilacs. The look and smell of them take me back to so many family-oriented moments. They make my heart happy and fill my mind with sentiments and hopes.

As we move through this weekend I will share again the poem I wrote on a previous Mother’s Day that says it best of all …. I Am a Mother.

Enjoy the memories you love most of your mother and if you are blessed to have children (whether your own or any other) that look up to you and that you love … enjoy and celebrate your day!

Wisdom of the heart …

It isn’t the wisdom of our minds that draws people closer … it is the wisdom of our hearts.

You see, mental wisdom can be gained completely without connection – we can attain it through books and research. Facts, figures, and data are good and useful things. It helps us to understand, build, and develop the outer world around us. It is the knowledge of things.

However, the wisdom of the heart can only be attained by drawing near to each other. It takes connection and willingness to receive of the insights of another soul. It is the stuff that holds life, and lives together on this journey through time and space. We are not here by happenstance. We are here with a purpose, connected in proximity and timing to particular souls for a reason. Connecting on the level of our heart wisdom allows us to glimpse into that purpose. We see the value and gifts of another and how they intertwine and compliment our own. Connecting through heart wisdom actually changes the world within – it expands and evolves  life. It creates divine connections. It creates inner change. It grows and fosters love, which is the true essence of who we are. It is heart wisdom that energetically shifts the world because it is the knowledge of the soul. It is this wisdom that I cherish.

Share your heart’s wisdom and be blessed!

The Quiet Roar – original poem

2013-09-30 22.52.40

                       THE QUIET ROAR

Inside every opportunity is the chance to trip and fall

upon our fears and indecisive groaning.

We begin with hope brimming from the sparkle of that

     which we covet to achieve.

We set our course and brace ourselves for

     work, wish, and wonder.

Alas the day comes when a mountain appears before our eyes,

looming ever bigger than we imagined.

It is not our reality but our paradigm of self disbelief

wanting to cast a daunting shadow upon that fanciful dream.

That is the day we come to know just how deep our desire is planted,

how well watered and cared for it might be.

We whisper to ourselves the secret question we dare not admit,

which queries whether we are “enough.”

Indeed, we quake at the thought that we have not enough of

     something vital for the journey.

Have we stepped too far and gone past the brink

of all that we know we can do, be, and have?

Pause … and stand in the stillness of the fear for but a time and listen

for that even smaller voice inside our soul.

The one that knows the mighty truth of our unique

     and everlasting spirit.

“I am” I hear in the quietest voice buried

     deep inside my heart.

Again it squeaks, and stronger still until it turns into

     a deep and quiet roar.

“I AM” I speak, with growing confidence, all that

I imagine that I can be.

And with that spoken declaration comes the brilliant truth

at long last tumbling through my core.

It is not fear that will determine if I have what

     I need to carry forth.

It is the choice to hear within the ever knowing

     truth of my existence.

I am all that I shall need to walk the next step of my path,

the one that I came to dream of and create.

And fear must, as the laws of life command, slip ever sulkily away

leaving only truth, and trust to stand.

Fear shall not win as long as I listen to that still small roar

upon which I choose to follow.

What moves you?

Have you ever consciously noticed that there are some people and some things that seem to jump-start your heart, mind, imagination and spirit of excitement for life? I have, and today a couple of them have been part of my day. It’s what keeps me moving forward.

10154168_10152111046213124_1206357627_nFirst – KINDNESS: This is by far the fastest way for me to change my life and the world – whether it’s seeing it or participating in it … the power is so great it can create miracles any way it touches me. This past year for my 50th birthday I held my “Kindness Inspires Kindness Day” where my friends and I celebrated by doing 50 acts of kindness. It was spectacular and you can read about it in my serious of posts starting with:  50 – Acts of Kindness that is.  The feeling and boost I got from that day still lives in me. It was by far the best birthday ever – the giving was the best gift I could give myself. I was inspired by a friend, Miss Anita, who is now holding her second Kindness day. She’s a true inspiration and one of the most generous souls I know. She knows how to keep her spirit in peak shape by her constant flow of kindness. She’s one of my favorite heroes.

Second – MUSIC:  The universal language that has the power to shift a mood, shift an atmosphere, shift a heart or a dream. I’ve posted this one before but every single time I hear it my soul literally leaps and recommits to my life’s purpose of inspiring and helping others. I cannot help but to share it again.

Break Free!

Image

Today I saw this post and it brought me to a standstill. I hadn’t ever really examined what it looks like to truly change … to be born into a different dimension of life. Not just adjust or tweak your life … but to transform it immensely and suddenly.

We so often wish for and day dream about the results we want. We forget that to leave this life of want, discontent, or unhappiness we have to go through the labor of chipping away at the toughness of life that is our constricting shell … from the inside out. We bang our hands, our head, and our feet on that which limits our growth until with a final blow we break the surface. Stretching with all our might we crack open what was life – the “safe”, the known, the familiar barriers that we longed to undo but became so used to.

Suddenly, without our knowing what is on the other side of that shell we come tumbling out into something new. New, rich, fertile dirt of possibility, the stuff that nurtures life. Something that is awe-striking and in moments frightening because the next moment is unknown. We have destroyed the thing that held us in for so long. We are born again into possibility.

Am I brave enough to really do this? I believe, with shaking voice and weak knees, that yes, I am!

The Power Within You

The Power Within You

I’ve heard it said that some people live ninety years and others live one year ninety times.  The difference is that those living their years to the fullest are living their dreams.  We are all capable of living our dream lives when we open ourselves up to possibilities and opportunities.

We have been trained to look at conditions to determine what the opportunities and possibilities are for our lives, though these conditions can be limiting when viewed with just the five senses.  When we live outside the standard senses and use intuition, imagination, and perception we are able to more clearly see our heart’s desire and the dreams that will bring us the happiness for which we yearn.  We all have an inner voice, but it is not one of reason or logic…it is the voice of guidance.  This voice may not make sense to anyone else, but it is there to help us recognize and nurture the thoughts that build dreams of our very own.

The underling principle of dream building is this: The power that is within each of us is greater than anything that is in our surroundings.  The power that is within each of us is greater than any circumstance of our life.  The power that is within each of us is greater than our history.  There are all sorts of things that we can hold as ideas that will keep us from our dreams or, instead, we can use our thoughts in service of dreams instead of thwarting them.

Changing our thoughts to best build our dreams is a two-step process.  First, we must release condition-based thinking.  If we focus our thoughts on what we don’t want to happen, we bring about those circumstances.  For example, if you want to lose weight and concentrate on not eating pizza, then you crave pizza and ultimately give in to it.

The second part of the process is to focus on what you do want to create, regardless of our conditions.  Using the weight loss example, if you think about the delicious salad you are going to have for dinner then you look forward to that salad and do not think about the pizza that would thwart your efforts.  This is true even if you work in a pizza parlor!

Each of us is the author of our own thoughts.  The past or present does not need to dictate the future.  Allow yourself to explore the possibilities of your dreams and fill your mind with what you would like to be and do and create and give.  Use your inner power to write the future in a way that supports your dreams.

To Your Greatness!

Daydream believing …

Today I am feeling hopeful and ever so optimistic.

Haha – as I read that I know there are people who know me that will chuckle because that seem to be “just who I am”. True, I tend to live my life, whenever possible, in that frame of mind. However, there is a shift in the air – one that is guiding me and nudging me toward creating all that I allow my mind to dream up. I have aspirations, dreams, and plans to create a life coaching business that combines my 30+ years of business and human resources experience, along with the depth and breadth of the spiritual growth and learning I’ve gathered along the way. My coaching certification will be complete soon and I am well on my way of bringing these things together. 2014 has so much to offer and I’m looking forward to the journey.

What are you creating in your day dreaming, life dreaming moments of clarity? I’d love to hear all that you dream of becoming!

Be blessed!

Earth Angel

20a899923d92604ee732fcd057b6af8aTo those who know me, seeing me talk or write about angels isn’t at all unusual. They flock around me (and you) and I recognize their touch, their voice, and their inspiration.

Today I have to share a video that really touched me about an earth-bound angel, Woody Davis. It’s worth watching … trust me. And my favorite line is:

“Even angels like to know they’ve made a difference.”

Watch and be blessed!
