I’ve been in the practice of starting my day and ending my day with gratitude. It’s a simple practice … one that helps me to start with an upbeat, positive note, as well as drift into dreamland with thoughts of blessings. Because I believe that the world needs more and more examples of both the big and little things that bring us joy, I’ve created a new FB page called: GIFTS of GRATITUDE. It’s a place for us to simply share and celebrate that which we are grateful for. No selling. No politics or religion. No criticism or drama. Simply gratitude. Feel free to check it out and join!
With gratefulness for all who read my blog … may be count our blessings together!
Since posting about my 50th Birthday Kindness Inspires Kindness Day …. something has changed. I feel like my joy set point has raised even higher. The surge of happiness I felt that day hasn’t diminished. It’s a natural high. It’s the purpose of my soul that doesn’t want to be buried any more. Such joy I feel when friends tell me they have been inspired to do an act of kindness where previously they would not have even seen the opportunity. These are the beginnings of the ripples of kindness. These are the first steps of multiplying, expanding, and exploding of the kindness.
I am overwhelmed by desire to do more. I am overcome by the feeling that change really is possible and each of us can create a splash and more and more ripples.
I am filled with joy.
TELL ME! … what ripples of kindness do you see in your life?
This week I had a gentle reminder of something that’s been on my “bucket list” for a very long time. It’s a small thing really, but a desire that was planted in the wee early days of my career. The “what” is not important. What is important is that, with the courage to speak a desire, even one that seems frivolous or unimportant to others, I find power in my voice. And the resulting “yes” strengthens my resolve to continue to create the life I want.
It sometimes surprises me to remember, or is it realize, that I really do have the power to get the things I want. The obstacles are rarely real. Whether it be the fear to ask. The shyness of being judged. The assumption that our desires are not important enough. Or that others hold the key to achieving our goal. How many times does this lesson come around? And the answer is still the same – SPEAK into possibility the thing you want, and BELIEVE it into existence by ACTION. Well, that and persistence, sometimes.
I know from speaking to many wiser and more experienced people that it is the little commitments to ourselves that we keep which fuel our spirit. And in my own wisdom, which has been hard-won, I know that happiness is situational but joy is an enduring mindset. If I have to choose one – I choose joy. Because joy is not about the emotion in the moment but about an attitude of appreciation along the journey.
I wish for you a joyful “yes” for something on your bucket list. Go for it and be blessed!
Ahh the joys of doggie ownership. This weekend I doubled my joy with a second little one. My 3 1/2 year old Bichon, Gracie, has been a gracious and patient new friend. And Bella, my 8 month old new Yorkiepoo is frisky and as her previous owner described her, a “close talker”. She’s always up in Gracie’s face sniffing away and it’s funny to watch them. They settled in together with zero issues. No struggle over toys or territory. Bella even slept with us last night with no accidents or incidents. To see them you’d think they had been together for quite a while now. Now, if only I could get a good picture of them together.
I’m feeling blessed with my “double dog” dare in puppydom. Meet Bella and be blessed!
Sometimes it’s hard to make the world stop swirling and rushing at the speed of light in order to pause and to write. It’s been that way the last couple of days. It’s starting to look like the near future will be similar.
So, as you are rushing about your day, or leisurely enjoying a bit of rest and relaxation, I challenge you to find at least 3 things to be super thankful for. Just a momentary breath of gratitude can make all the difference in the stress our bodies release and the joy we get to keep.
Do it for yourself and for those who love you … and be blessed!
“I am thrilled to realize in spite of the world’s trajedies, heartaches & conflict, there lives and thrives in this world a great joy. It is love of God, self, neighbor, creature & earth. It is the passion in us that keeps us striving for good. And the compassion inside of us that helps us continue to lend a hand to those in need. It is God inside of us working to change what is not God-like. We are blessed!” ~ Barbara Bernard Miller
